Upon appropriating the Venus of Willendorf fertility idol for my last set of pieces, I realized I had become desensitized to her. Thinking about what she means to me now, in comparison to what we believe her function was in ancient times, I was lead to think about her in a more modern context - The idea of prosperity in general.
This is a remake of this. The end result of the original line wasn't pottery enough for me. So I decided to use a transparent colored glaze instead of underglaze, and stamps instead of painting on their symbol. The end result seems to be less liked by my classmates than the original because it ventured too far from the "My Little Pony" realm. I would have to agree with that, but I still like these figures more. If I were to remake them a third time (which I am not going to do) I would use a different color for their hair, and I would go back to painting on their symbol. If I had the opportunity, I would actually use a decal for the symbol, but that can get expensive.
Here we have a shot of the back and side of the box. The original box only had imagery on the front. I've included an explanation of what each symbol means, how to use the idols, and a little historical reference to the Venus of Willendorf.

Technical:
the figures are ^04 earthenware. I made a bisque press mold for this series, rather than slipcasting. I have found a new love for bisque molds; Thanks be to Lisa Orr for opening my eyes! After they were taken from the mold, they were altered.
The box was completely designed in Illustrator; no template. Printed on glossy card stock.
If you have any questions or comments I really want to hear them!
Thank you for your interest! I'm selling these for $20 each. I am at a new studio with new and different materials so the color may be a little different than what you see here. Red (health) is no longer an option, sadly. Do you know which one you'd like if you're still interested?
Peace!
so I guess you have to book a ticket...
I'm interested to buy one of this lovely Willendorf Venus. How many does it cost?
They are both really fun!
