My Little Venus by rebootmaster2001 My Little Venus by rebootmaster2001
I decided to approach the art community as a fandom and made "fanart" for them. I appropriated the Venus of Willendorf fertility idol which anyone who has taken an art history survey class is familiar with. I have a feeling that my fellow artists here at DA will be the only ones to truly understand my "Venus Series" since many of us are fanartists as well as fine-artists. We have our own fandoms that we geek over. Thus, this is a NRFB "My little Venus" based on "My little Pony" from the 1980's.

If you have any questions or comments I really want to hear them!

I will hopefully be replacing this snapshot with a real slide soon.

Technical stuff:
^04 slip cast earthenware
Underglazes for color, clear glaze for gloss
Box label done in Illustrator

EDIT: I replaced the snap shot with a more professional slide.

Nice! It really looks real. You should sell them. Postmodern paganism... I love it!

That is too funny! And a really cool idea. If it were a real product, I think I would actually buy one. =)

Jason!

These are amazing! Greatest thing ever! Seriously, should you become vested with the energy to sell them, I must have one. The colors are kick-ass. You have topped yourself. Mad kudos!!!!!

lol, thanks! I don't see myself producing these to sell though. They take a lot of work with the box and I feel that's the best part.

My pagan god! These are hilarious! I think even Grandma Culley would be proud! (I don't know if you had her for art history or not...) But yes! Haha too clever--and did you also fabricate the box?

Yeah,I had Dr. Culley, she's the one who taught me about our chesty friend. I actually taught her and knew her rather personally. I should make her one, I know she'd like it.

Yeah, I designed the box in illustrator thanks to that digital art class. The box was a cheerio box LOL!

Wow! I absolutely love these. Not only because I myself have done a Venus of Willendorf replica, but because of my art history teacher. I'm fortunate enough to have Leroy McDermott for my art history teacher and he's well known for his theory that the Venus of Willendorf was actually a prehistoric self portrait. If you think about it logically (how your body gets distorted by looking down at yourself) it really is uncanny!
If you ever wanted to sell these, I know that Dr. McDermott would giggle like a school girl at the chance to have these. :D

Hmm... That's an interesting theory, I haven't heard it before. I toyed with the idea of selling these, but I don't think I have it in me right now lol.

I'm glad you like it!
