Food for Thought

Description

Ever since I started working with clay, if I didn't know what to make and I had clay in my hand I would make stupid little things and then destroy them. A year ago I started keeping them because I realized that they were a little interesting and could perhaps bring inspiration. I kept them in a little bowl I made and called it my bowl of thoughts, adding to it every so often. I saw potential for art in this, but mostly it was just for fun. In a way, I saw everything in this bowl as an extension of myself, a way to look into my mind.

A few months ago the idea struck me that I could display these in a glass bowl so you could see all the contents, thinking about what goes in glass bowls I thought about cereal and how this is very similar to that. Thus I plunked a spoon into the mix. I am left with the idea of "Food for thought" and "Start every morning with a big bowlful of thoughts". It's interesting to me because I did find inspiration in these bowls - mostly in subtle ways - but any inspiration is always welcome.

The idea of stomaching these pieces can be overwhelming. You can see that some won't even fit on the spoon, while others are sharp and the thought of putting it in your mouth is frightening. None of these pieces are glazed, they are unfinished, a diamond in the rough, just an idea...

I am aware that this slide is not good. Presentation for this piece is very difficult. A tabletop is the best. Right now this piece is in the basement of a gallery because when I was setting up a show with some of my pieces included I felt this piece didn't sit well on a pedestal. Once I get this piece back I will try to take a better picture. Unfortunately for you online viewers at the moment (once again) this piece is much better viewed in person.

I like how you convey such a broad idea so simply. Our thoughts are not always easy to digest. Great work thanks for showing it.
