Upon appropriating the Venus of Willendorf fertility idol for my last set of pieces, I realized I had become desensitized to her. Thinking about what she means to me now, in comparison to what we believe her function was in ancient times, I was lead to think about her in a more modern context - The idea of prosperity in general, along with the modern purpose of sex. Sex is now for pleasure and enjoyment, not just procreation. With this series I made "sexual prosperity idols" for various fetishes. Fetishes themselves can be rather hard to explain to someone, and even harder to find a sexual match. This is why I felt the idea of needing some assistance in sexual fortune fit perfectly with those who carry fetishes. I wanted this product line to also have a sense humor. After all, sex and humor sells. Personally I find fetishes to be fascinating and hilarious, and I've noticed many others do too. I hope to draw in a vast audience because of this.

Here we have a display shot of all the idols. each one stands at 11cm, and is completely made of clay.

Technical:

the figures are ^10 stoneware fired to ^04. I made a bisque press mold for this series, rather than slipcasting. I have found a new love for bisque molds; Thanks be to Lisa Orr for opening my eyes! After they were taken from the mold, they were altered. Underglaze, rutile, and red iron Ox. and acrylic paint for color.

The box was completely designed in Illustrator; no template. Printed on glossy card stock.

more awesomeness! I could totally see these in a Stag Shop or other fun store - your packaging is great too - though I am not to keen on the Action Figures title on the box - it seems out of place. Fetish Friends or something more catchy could help your marketing. Im horrible with names though lol

I have some of those that I redid that I'm waiting to reveal once I'm done with this little trip I'm on. Unfortunately, my class liked the original idols better than the revamped version. I'm excited to hear what you think once they're on here.
