Description

I made this in 3D design class. The project was a linear teapot.

This is about the divide that often occurs between 2D and 3D artists. A picture can only be viewed from one perspective, it's chosen for you, so because of that I made this teapot to only look like a teapot from one specific angle. The dowel rods make up the contour of a teapot and the decoration is like a gestural drawing. The white dowel rods are the paper, and the thread and black paint used for line variation is the line. If you think about it, the white dowel rods could be negative space, along with actual negative space. If you step away from that angle where it looks like a teapot then it's completely abstract. I've had people think it's a gun, bicycle, and absolutely nothing. So this is both a picture and a sculpture.
